Mid-Carolina announces new head football coach

PROSPERITY, S.C. — Big changes are coming for the Mid-Carolina football program as they announced that Jody Haltiwanger will be their next head coach.

Haltiwanger is a graduate of Newberry High School and is well known in the community of Prosperity and Newberry. He served as the quarterbacks coach last season for the Rebels as they claimed their share of region 3-AA title and hosted a home playoff game for the first time in 15 years.

The new head ball coach also is a graduate of Winthrop University, where he finished with a bachelor’s degree in history and secondary education. Haltiwanger then went on to obtain a Master of Science in Sports Science and Athletic Administration from the United States Sports Academy. Also, he is a National Board Certified Teacher in Social Studies.

In addition to his outstanding education background, Haltiwanger brings coaching experience from Walhalla and Chapin High School. He is also a married to Stephanie Waites and they share three children together. Waites is a graduate of Mid-Carolina High School.

Haltiwanger will inherit an offense that returns all of their starters which includes: Wyatta Mazza, Ryker Woolstenhulme, Cash Knight, Blair Cromer and starting quarterback Davis Ruff. Mazza was all-region and all-state selection at running back last season along with his backfield mate Woolstenhulme. Knight had a breakout season at the wide receiver position and emerged as wide receiver one for the Rebels.

Woolstenhulme also showed his versatility by winning 3-AA specialists of the year for his kicking, punting and return ability. He had made four field goals, 22 extra points, had a 36 yards per punt average and totaled 382 total return yards last season.

The Rebels are also coming off back-to-back seasons with a .500 or better record to finish the regular season. Now, as for the former head coach Chris Arnoult, he will remain as the Athletic Director for the Rebels. He mentioned that he is there to help Haltiwanger in any capacity to make this a smooth transition.

Arnoult has 33 years of experience as a football coach and has certainly turned things around in the Mid-Carolina football program over the last two seasons.
