LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Fishing season is officially underway at Lake Murray as the Carolina Bass Challenge held their annual championships on February 6-7, 2026. The top prize was $50,000 plus a total of $7,500 in bonuses. Wayne Jeffcoat and Kevin Banks partnered and took home that top prize.
Both Jeffcoat and Banks combined to catch over 46.1 pounds of bass. Dustin and Todd Ayers came in a close second with a combined weight of 45.22 pounds of bass between day one and day two of the tournament.
The team of Chris Epting and Johnny Mayer finished in third place, Michael Stephens finished in fourth place and the team of Scott Farmer and Samuel Freeman finished in fifth place to round out the top five. There were about 146 teams competed in this championship. They had to battle through various other tournaments to make it to the championship rounds.
