NEWBERRY – History was made at Setzler Field on Sunday afternoon as the Newberry College field hockey team captured its first-ever South Atlantic Tournament Championship, defeating Lander 3–0 to complete an undefeated 18–0 season and secure a moment that will be remembered forever in Wolves history.
The victory marked another monumental milestone for Head Coach Hannah Dave, who celebrated her 100th career win in the same moment her program reached the pinnacle of conference success. From humble beginnings to champions, this win symbolized years of vision, belief, and relentless effort from every player who has worn the Newberry uniform.
The Wolves wasted no time asserting themselves, with Wibien Dahmen striking first in the opening quarter to ignite the home crowd. Parker Keeler followed with a goal just minutes later, assisted by Lieke Varenkamp, to give Newberry early control. In the second quarter, Amber Tozana extended the lead to 3–0 off a feed from Keeler, and the Wolves never looked back. Anchored by goalkeeper Ayanda Mangenah, who tallied five saves for her sixth shutout of the year, Newberry’s defense remained impenetrable as the clock wound down toward a championship celebration years in the making.
This season has been nothing short of remarkable for the Wolves, filled with achievements that speak to their unity, talent, and heart. Eight Wolves earned All-Conference honors—four named to the First Team and four to the Second Team—while Parker Keeler was crowned Offensive Player of the Year and Coach Dave earned Coach of the Year honors. Along the way, Newberry players collected numerous Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards, reflecting the depth and consistency of a team that simply refused to be outworked.
As the final horn sounded, emotions filled the air—tears of joy, laughter, and a deep sense of pride in what this team has built together. The Wolves didn’t just win a championship; they built a legacy. And the story isn’t done yet. The Wolves now turn their eyes to the national stage, awaiting their fate in the NCAA Selection Show tonight at 9:30 p.m., where they hope to hear their name called for the first time in program history. For the Wolves, this season has been about more than just wins—it’s been about faith, family, and the belief that anything is possible when you play for one another.
