ORANGEBURG, S.C. — The Newberry College Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams delivered a competitive showing at the Sharonda Coleman-Singleton Classic, hosted by South Carolina State University. The Wolves compiled multiple podium finishes and demonstrated depth across a range of sprint, middle-distance, hurdle, and field events.

Women’s Team Highlights

The women’s program earned several top-three finishes, particularly in the field events. Freshman Meah Jackson led the way with two standout performances—placing 3rd in the high jump with a clearance of 1.60m (5’3”), and earning another 3rd-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.40m (17’8.75”). She was joined in the high jump by Isabel Farup, who also cleared 1.60m to finish 5th, and Jameria Davis, who placed 8th at 1.50m.

In the throws, the Wolves dominated. Senior Irma Watson-Perez claimed 1st in the discus with a mark of 41.16m (135’0”) and added a 3rd-place finish in the hammer throw (45.74m). Senior Andrea Pascual Rivera delivered a winning effort in the hammer throw, recording a distance of 49.84m (163’6”). Sophomore Kiori Butler placed 4th in the shot put (11.19m) and javelin (34.81m), while senior ShaNadia Marshall contributed with top-five placements in both the shot put and hammer throw.

On the track, freshman Kamryn Adderton posted a 10th-place finish in the 400 meters (1:00.53), and senior Ruby Hansen placed 10th in the 800 meters (2:28.90). The 4×100 meter relay team—comprised of Jackson, Rose, Davis, and Adderton—recorded a solid 5th-place time of 48.72.

Men’s Team Highlights

The men’s team produced several first-place finishes and depth across the board. Senior Shamar Brown led all competitors in the 400m hurdles, winning the event in 53.01, while sophomore Landon Tucker followed in 4th (55.06). In distance events, sophomore Drew Benson secured 1st place in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:17.74, and sophomore Tyler Shumate placed 2nd in the 800 meters (1:54.32).

In field events, Sean Price delivered a standout performance in the javelin, capturing 1st place with a throw of 58.35m (191’5”). He also competed in the discus (29.13m). Senior Walker Flores placed 3rd in the hammer throw (46.33m), while sophomore Jhayden Gattison earned a 6th-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 12.99m. Junior Joshua Steele placed 9th in the triple jump (13.09m).Freshman Jamari Bennett contributed in multiple areas, placing 8th in the 200 meters (22.46) and leading the Wolves in the long jump with a mark of 6.13m.

In the 4×400 meter relay, the team of Brown, Thompson, Tucker, and Canty recorded a 5th-place finish with a time of 3:17.71.
