MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Newberry College track and field team delivered strong performances finishing at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge, showcasing both individual excellence and teamwork across multiple events.
Track Highlights:
Jamari Bennett led the way in the men’s 100m prelims, clocking an impressive 11.00 seconds to finish 15th overall. He followed that with a personal best in the 200m, running 22.64 seconds to finish 26th.
Leiyana Rose posted a solid 12.68 in the women’s 100m prelims, placing 20th. She also delivered a jump of 4.99m in the women’s long jump, finishing 21st.
In the men’s 110m hurdles, Addison O’Cain finished in 15.89 seconds, securing 14th place.
In the women’s 100 hurdles, Madalynn Williams finished with a time of 16.24 seconds, taking 15th. She added a 28.46-second effort in the 200m, placing 68th.
In the women’s 800m, Ruby Hansen (2:36.42) and Kayleigh Geel (2:37.76) placed 15th and 17th, respectively.
On the men’s side, Sullivan Smith ran a 4:32.70 in the 1500m, placing 31st, while Addie Davis (5:19.01) and Ruby Hansen (5:22.92) excelled in the women’s 1500m, finishing 7th and 10th respectively.
In the 400m hurdles, Shamar Brown delivered a standout performance, placing 1st with a personal best time of 53.38 seconds. Landon Tucker contributed with a 7th-place finish in the same event, clocking 56.32 seconds.
Field Highlights:
Sean Price delivered a standout performance in the men’s hammer throw with a personal best of 49.15m, placing 4th and earning five points for the Wolves. Price also claimed 3rd place in the men’s javelin with a strong mark of 56.13m.
Andrea Pascual Rivera claimed 1st place in the women’s hammer throw with an impressive toss of 49.85m, earning 10 points. Rivera also added a throw of 30.29m in the discus, placing 26th.
Irma Watson-Perez added another strong showing with a personal best throw of 49.03m, taking 3rd place and contributing six points. She also placed 8th in the discus with a throw of 39.32m.
Dominic Blagburn cleared 1.70m in the men’s high jump, placing 7th. On the women’s side, Mia Dionisio and Isabel Farup both excelled, placing 7th and 6th in the high jump with marks of 1.60m and 1.65m, respectively.
Relay Success:
The men’s 4x200m relay team of S. Brown, J. Bennett, K. Tobias, and L. Tucker finished 5th with a time of 1:28.13, adding four points.
The women’s 4x200m relay squad featuring K. Adderton, J. Davis, M. Dionisio, and L. Rose earned 7th place with a time of 1:45.98, contributing three points.
The Wolves will look to build on their strong performances as the outdoor season continues on March 29th when the compete at the Gotta Run Invite at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, SC.
