NEWBERRY — The Newberry High School varsity baseball team (4-4) remains undefeated in regional play after two games.

The Bulldogs handed Fairfield Central High School its first regional loss of the season — 9-3 — Thursday evening at Bill Harvey Field.

After an infield out, Bailey Clark, Trey Kinard, Ryne Huggins, Jamey Busby and Alec Blackmon all successfully reached base.

Clark and Huggins — who both reached on walks — were able to score on wild pitches. Blackmon, who reached on an infield error, brought home Kinard, who reached base on a single.

After two outs to start the second, Clark, after reaching on a single, was brought home on a Kinard infield error. Kinard scored on a wild pitch to Busby for the 5-0 score.

The Griffins put two runs across in the third inning

Blackmon and Tyron Graham led off the fifth inning with walks with Blackmon scoring on a Shy Williams infield error, while Graham scored on Clark’s sacrifice fly.

Fairfield Central put their final run of the evening across home plate in the sixth inning while Newberry put their final runs across in the same inning.

A new Griffin pitcher put two strikes across Huggins before he was able to draw out a walk. A deep centerfield hit from Busby had him sliding into third uncontested for the RBI.

Busby scored off Graham’s single.

Kinard garnered the win on the mound as he walked six, struck-out eight and allowed four hits on six innings on the mound before giving way to Huggins to finish out the game in the seventh.

Andew Livingston was hit by a pitch while Clark had a single, a walk, and a sacrifice fly.

Kinard recorded a single and reached on an error, before Huggins had a single and three walks.

Busby had a triple and was hit by a pitch, followed by Clackmon, who drew a walk and reached on an error.

Graham had two singles and a walk, while Williams had two singles and an infield error.
