NEWBERRY — Head Field Hockey Coach Hannah Dave has announced the addition of eight student athletes for her 2019-20 roster. The class includes signees from Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, South Australia and Belgium.
The 2018 Wolves finished with eight wins, the most in program history, and are entering the second season of South Atlantic Conference Carolinas play.
Carly Ellis
Ellis is an incoming freshman forward from Virginia Beach, Virginia. She attended Floyd E. Kellman High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the National English Honor Society. Ellis received the 2018 Sportsmanship award while playing for the Knights. She also played club for TCOYO, where she finished first in the U16 National Hockey Showcase.
Marissa Plumer
Plumer is from Chester, Maryland and played Varsity Field Hockey for Kent Island High School. At Kent Island, Plumer was a state finalist who finished as senior player of the year, Defensive MVP, Bayside Conference first team, MPSSAA Honorable Mention All-State and more. She also played basketball and lacrosse, earning several awards across those sports. Off the field Plumer was two time recipient of the “Master of Sports Awards” and was a part of the National English Honor Society.
Amanda Sponaugle
Amanda Sponaugle is from Lewes, Delaware where she played for Cape Henlopen High School. The midfielder won three state championships with the Vikings. Additionally, she was a two-time first team all conference attacker. Off the field, she was a member of several organizations, including the National Honor Society, Leo Club, and the FFA, where she served as vice president and was named to the national academic squad. Sponaugle also played club field hockey for Delaware Shore, where she won three Limelight championships.
Alice Jackson
Alice Jackson is a midfielder and defender from Red Hill, South Australia who played for Premier League Team Port Adelaide District Hockey Club. Jackson aided the team to their eighth consecutive grand final. She played in Division I since she was 13, gaining experience in a competitive league. Aside from club field hockey, Jackson played for Gladstone High School where she won AIS Local Sporting champion award and Outstanding Overall Academic Achievement.
Charlotte Bragard
Another incoming international is Belgian goalkeeper Charlotte Bragard, who played for club team Hockey Namur U19g1. She made the honour first team for the women’s division and men’s division. Bragard attended Institut Saint Louis Namur.
Kelli Marshall
Kelli Marshall transfers to Newberry from Division I Appalachian State University. Marshall is a North Carolina native that attended West Forsyth High School. At West Forsyth, she was voted team MVP for three years, was a four time first team All-Conference Selection, and was crowned conference player of the year as a senior, earning All-State honors after totaling 38 goals, 54 assists and 130 points in her four years. Marshall played in 16 games while making eight starts for the Mountaineers. She registered one shot against Saint Louis and was named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad.
Elisabeth Issacs
Issacs is an incoming freshman defender from Camden, Delaware. She attended Caesar Rodney High school and played varsity field hockey for all four years. At Caesar Rodney, Issacs won Henlopen All-Conference distinction twice, received the best technique award and was named the most improved player. She plans on majoring in exercise science at Newberry College.
Rachel Crowder
Crowder plays both sides of the ball. She attended Shippensburg Area High School, where she was vice president of the GSA. Crowder has been a part of student government since the seventh grade. She won the Focus cup with her club team, which granted her the opportunity to be selected for the Under Armour Select Game. Crowder described that selection as one of her favorite athletic memories thus far.
