POMARIA — The Town of Pomaria’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year was unanimously approved at Monday night’s council meeting.

“Our budget hasn’t changed much,” said Mayor Darryl Hentz. “I think it went up maybe a hundred and something dollars over last year.”

A motion to approve the budget was made by Councilman Richard Ringer and seconded by Councilman Billy Fanning.

The three biggest expenditures budgeted for the upcoming year are improvements and maintenance at $11,200, utilities at $8,800 and tort liability insurance at $5,800.

Additionally council mulled the prospect of replacing the carpeting in the multi-purpose room of the Old Pomaria School Building used for council meetings as well as a variety of social functions.

“I think it’s about used its useful life,” Hentz said of the 10-plus year old carpet.

He also said, given the type of functions usually held in the room, carpet is not likely to be a viable material.

“We need something that’s a little more durable and permanent,” Hentz said. “Of course you’re going to get things spilling in here — it’s kind of hard to avoid.”

Pomaria’s project to renovate the building will be on this fall’s Capital Project Sales Tax ballot and council agreed that while they will presently begin looking at options, they will likely wait until November before moving forward on the carpet issue.

Regarding the Old Pomaria School Reunion which took place last month Hentz said he feels it went very well and he’s heard all positive feedback.

A meeting is planned for tomorrow night to provide the members of council with a full recap the festival.

Additionally next month’s council meeting has been rescheduled to July 6 so as not to conflict with the Independence Day holiday.
