MYRTLE BEACH – Dan Swenson of Newberry County has been named one of four state finalists in the 2017 South Carolina Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Excellence in Agriculture Contest.

The announcement was made during the organizations 73rd annual meeting held recently in Myrtle Beach. The contest winner will be announced in February at the 2017 SCFB Young Farmer & Rancher Conference in Charleston.

Swenson will compete for the opportunity to win $500, a Polaris ATV, and an expense paid trip to the 2018 American Farm Bureau Annual Convention in Nashville, Tenn. The other finalists for the award are Nikki Seibert Kelley of Charleston County, Zachary Snipes of Charleston County and Case Chumley of Spartanburg County.

The Excellence in Agriculture Award recognizes young farmers and ranchers who do not derive the majority of their income from an owned agricultural operation, but who actively contribute to agriculture and Farm Bureau.

Award prizes are complements of Southern Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company, Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company, South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation and Polaris.

Also recognized was Loni Rikard of Lexington County, the 2016 winner of the Excellence in Agriculture Award.
