NEWBERRY — The Newberry Museum, in collaboration with the City of Newberry, has created a series of mini posters that commemorate the Colonial Era of America and the Revolutionary War in a way that invites residents and visitors to learn a little history as they walk around and shop in the downtown district (Nance Street to Calhoun Street and Harrington to Friend Street).
Each poster has a unique theme that is related to the business or organization where it will be displayed. Themes include historical facts (and fiction), people, events, institutions, products, inventions, and more. A QR code connects residents to the museum’s website for additional information about the poster and its theme. All together, these posters combine as “A Walk Through History.”
The first batch of posters was launched last week, starting with The Newberry Observer. Posters were created and offered to businesses and organizations without charge, asking only that they are displayed where people passing by can see them during Carolina Days (June 26 – July 5), or sooner and for as long as they like.
There are plans to do walking tours centered on this project and other activities to engage children and adults as they visit Newberry during Carolina Days.
Businesses and organizations are encouraged to share their posters on Facebook and tag “The Newberry Museum” so residents can go to the museum website to view information about the posters and other 250RevWar events.
