NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. — The South Carolina High School League announced the reclassifications for the next few years from 2026-28. There will be no change for three of the four area high schools. Mid-Carolina, Whitmire and Newberry Academy will remain in their current classifications.
Newberry High School will be on the move and go down from 3A to 2A. After reaching the 3A Quarterfinals in 2025 and advancing to the second round the previous season, the Bulldogs will move to 2A for the first time since the 2023-24 school year.
They will rejoin the Rebels and Clinton in class 2A. Notable schools that also moved to 2A were Keenan, Woodruff, Dillon and Silver Bluff. Fox Creek jumped up to 4A and will be competing with schools like Irmo, Gaffney, North Augusta and AC Flora. Gray Collegiate has been bumped up to 5A and will have to compete with schools like Dorman, Summerville, White Knoll, Dutch Fork and now Chapin.
The reclassifications should make for an interesting sports season starting in Fall 2026.
