WHITMIRE, S.C. — The Wolverines are finally back in the win column after getting a much needed victory on Senior Night. Whitmire(3-7, 1-4 region 1-A) defeated Calhoun Falls Charter(3-7, 1-5 region 1-A) 58-42 to close out the regular season with a win.
The Wolverines had their best scoring night of the season in the final week of the regular season and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Whitmire jumped out to early lead and dominated in the first half.
The home team took a 38-16 lead into halftime but we all know that no lead is safe when it comes to Friday Night Lights. The Blue Flashes came out with a point to prove in the second half and ripped off 21 unanswered points in the third quarter.
The Wolverines were able to match their efforts and hold them off in the fourth quarter. Five different Wolverines scored a touchdown in the game and three different Wolverines scored two or more touchdowns.
“We had a lot of guys play well for us tonight. It was so much scoring that I couldn’t keep up. We got a little healthier this week and got some guys back. This was the best our offense looked all season and it was fun night for our guys to close out the regular season with a win. Now, we will get back to work and try to put together a game plan for next week against Lewisville,” said Wolverines’ head coach Andrew Campbell.
Whitmire scored only 62 total points during their seven game losing streak, and almost matched that total in one game. The Wolverines will be on the road in the opening round of the playoffs on Friday, Nov. 7th.
