BATESBURG, S.C. — The Eagles closed out the regular season on Friday, Oct. 24th without a win. Newberry Academy(0-8, 0-6 region) fell 48-6 to King Academy (10-0, 4-0 region) to end their 2025 season.
Newberry Academy struggled this season with a new quarterback under center and new faces on both sides of the ball after graduating a senior class last year that snapped the program’s nearly 30-year playoff drought.
The Eagles were hoping to spoil King Academy’s perfect season, but were unsuccessful. The Knights rushed for 191 yards and had five rushing touchdowns. Sophomore running back Joseph Morse led the way with 11 carries for 79 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Despite the disappointing season, the Eagles fought hard. Seniors Thomas McLean will leave Newberry Academy as one of the best players in school history. He tallied over 3,000 yards rushing and had over 300 tackles as the starting running back and middle linebacker for three years. He also displayed great leadership and is leading candidate again for the 2025 Newberry Observer Iron Man Award.
Also, Newberry Academy has a bright future with Javon Conway coming back for his junior and senior as well as the undefeated middle school team sending up some of their talent after a successful season.
