WHITMIRE, S.C. — Whitmire(1-3) early season struggles continued on last Friday after falling 40-14 against Greenwood Christian(3-2) at home.
Oh what a difference a year makes for the Wolverines. Last season, Whitmire was 2-2 at this mark a year ago and were fresh off an upset win against Mid-Carolina. Now, they are struggling with staying healthy and are struggling on both sides of the ball.
Their defense is allowing 29 points per game and their offense is only averaging 12.25 points per game.
In Friday night’s game against the Hawks, Whitmire led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter. Then, they were outscored 40-8 for the rest of the game. The Wolverines didn’t find the end zone again until the fourth quarter.
Kayshaun Schumpert was held in check as he rushed for only 41 yards. Freshmen Jayshawn Sligh and Kingston Green led the way on offense. Green had 65 rushing yards with only four attempts and a rushing touchdown. Sligh had 50 yards rushing with only seven attempts and a rushing touchdown.
The Wolverines rushed for 197 yards as a team, but struggled to connect on a big play through the air(44 passing yards) and threw a critical interception.
Whitmire will look to get back in the win column this week as they travel to play Ridge Spring-Monetta for an away game this Friday.
