NEWBERRY — Newberry College Athletics is excited to announce that Union, S.C. native Brett Loftis has been hired as the department’s media relations director.

Loftis joins the staff after serving the past two years as television play by play broadcaster for BEK Sports In North Dakota.

“We couldn’t be happier to have Brett join the Wolves family,” said Athletics Director Sean Johnson. “As we pivot the priorities of our media relations department towards an emphasis on emerging media, Brett fits the exact profile we are looking for. His work ethic, expertise and dedication to getting the job done is going to make him a perfect fit for our department.”

During his time at BEK, Loftis broadcast & produced games for the inaugural season of the Pro Volleyball Federation for a national audience while also broadcasting over 400 live high school and collegiate sporting events in North Dakota.

Earlier this year he was recognized with an Eric Sevareid Award of Merit for his outstanding play by play work with BEK.

Loftis also served as Radio Play-by-Play Broadcaster & Director of Media Relations for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters of the Northwoods League and did freelance work for the Wolves during the fall of 2022.

I am so grateful to Athletic Director Sean Johnson and the wonderful athletic administration staff for giving me this opportunity,” said Loftis. “As a native of the Upstate, I’ve always admired Newberry College as both an institution and an athletic program. Now, I’m so incredibly humbled and excited to be a part of the Wolves Family!”

A 2022 graduate of Piedmont University (Ga.), Loftis spent three years as the play-by-play broadcaster for Piedmont University Athletics broadcasting and producing over 100 live athletic events for the Lions.

He have spent time at WPCC AM-FM in Clinton, S.C., Z98.7 FM in Demorest, Ga. and with Golden Isles Broadcasting in Brunswick, Ga.
