NEWBERRY — Junior Running back Dwayne Wright and senior offensive guard Demari Joyner were named to the South Atlantic Conference Piedmont Division preseason All-Conference team.
Joyner is a three-year starter at offensive guard and has anchored a Wolves offense that is the only team in the SAC to rush for at least 2,000 yards each of the last three seasons.
Wright was an All-Piedmont Division pick last year after finishing fourth in the SAC in rushing yards (902), fifth in rushing yards per game (82), sixth in rushing touchdowns (8) and yards per carry (4.8).
He registered a trio of 100-yard rushing games a year ago including 140 yards on 19 carries and a score in a 24-17 victory at Erskine, 128 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns in a 38-31 homecoming win over Catawba and 132 yards on 24 carries and a score in the season finale at Mars Hill.
Wright carried the ball at least 10 times in every game last season, averaging 17 carries per game.
In his two seasons with the Wolves, Wright has rushed for 1,164 yards and nine rushing touchdowns and caught eight passes for 76 yards and a score.
The Wolves report to campus Monday and begin practices Wednesday morning.
The season begins in 36 days when the Wolves host 2023 NCAA Division 2 playoff team Valdosta State at 7:00 p.m. at Setzler Field.
The September 7th contest is one of seven home games for the Wolves this season.
