NEWBERRY — The Newberry Recreational Junior Soccer League hosted their annual soccer championship game on June 28 at 6:15 p.m. that featured Alex & Sons Contracting (ASFC) and Stokes-Trainor.

Stokes-Trainor entered the playoffs as the fifth seed and took down the fourth seeded Black Construction Company in a hard fought playoffs game that was decided by penalty kicks. Stokes-Trainor won 5-4 after a 2-2 tie took them into the penalty kicks to decide the winner.

ASFC won the tie breaker playoffs match against Franklin Summer Insurance 2-1. Both teams entered the playoffs tied for second place.

Then, Stokes-Trainor defeated Unique Images, the number one overall seed, by the score of 4-2 to earn them a spot in the championship game.

In the championship game, both Stokes-Trainor ASFC played hard and the game went down to the wire. The game was tied 3-3 at the end of regulation and the winner was decided by penalty kicks. ASFC outlasted Stokes-Trainor 7-6 to capture the 2024 Newberry County Junior Summer League Soccer Championship. Congratulations to both teams on a well played championship game and for all the teams that participated in the league. The registration for fall will begin in a few short weeks.
