NEWBERRY — The Newberry College wrestling team will start the 2016 calendar year ranked No. 7 as a team in the Super Region II Coaches’ Rankings, with five Wolves ranked in the top six of their weight class in the region.

Huston Evans remains as the top ranked wrestler in the region at 184 lbs. after placing third at the Midwest Classic. He has an overall record of 18-4 this year with six wins by fall and three wins by major decision.

At 125 lbs., Trung Duong remains ranked third in the region after placing sixth at the Midwest Classic. He has an overall record of 15-7 with five wins by major decision and four wins by fall.

Also remaining steady at his position is Lukas Gilmore at fifth in the 165 lbs. weight class. Gilmore has a 10-7 overall record this year with five of those 10 wins coming by fall.

Cody Brundage drops one position to fifth in the region at 197 lbs. after an eighth place finish at the Midwest Classic. Brundage is 13-8 this season with two wins by major decision and a win by fall.

A newcomer to the region rankings is Mike Kennedy at fourth in the 285 lbs. weight class. Kennedy is 7-7 overall this year after finishing sixth at the Midwest Classic. He has two wins by fall and a win by major decision.

Newberry returns to action in its first-ever ECAC conference dual on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Coker, who is one spot behind Newberry in the regional ranking.
