Women’s cross country eighth in preseason poll

NEWBERRY — The South Atlantic Conference (SAC) recently announced the preseason women cross country poll, seeing the Newberry College wolves in eighth entering the 2022 season.

Wingate leads the conference with 144 points, receiving twelve first place votes, followed by Anderson in second. Lenoir-Rhyne was voted third, receiving a first-place vote. Catawba was voted in fourth, with Lincoln Memorial and Carson-Newman coming in fifth and sixth, respectively.

Tusculum was voted seventh, followed by Limestone in ninth and UVA rounding out the top ten. Coker was voted eleventh in the polls followed by Emory & Henry in twelfth, and Mars Hill rounding out the polls.

Alaya Lindquist (Loganville, Ga.) will looked to lead the wolves again this season as a runner to watch in the SAC. Lindquist has run the third-fastest time over 6,000 meters in school history led the wolves in multiple races last season. Reagan Wells (Alfaretta, Ga.) will also be a runner to watch for the wolves this season, running the ninth fastest time in program history a year ago, along with Ahja Amos (Columbia), who was a consistent scorer a season ago.

The wolves open their season on September 3 at the Buccaneer Opener, hosted by Charleston Southern.
