NEWBERRY — The Newberry men’s tennis team wrapped up their home schedule with a win, defeating Catawba 5-2 Thursday afternoon on Senior Day
The Wolves (10-13, 4-5 SAC) started out hot, sweeping all three doubles matches. Edison Ambarzumjan and Enrico Haas defeated Luca Picci and Ryen Reid, edging them by a score of 7-6. Sean Nguyen and Jose Navarro defeated Adam Rocko and Jack Joel, 6-4. Lawrence Friedland and Alex Amble rounded out the doubles matches, defeating Vid Rados and Darius Perkins with a 6-1 victory.
Ambarzumjan continued his hot season, defeating Picci in two sets. Picci played tough in the first set but fell 7-5. Ambarzumjan wrapped up the match with a 6-3 win in the second set. Ambarzumjan’s doubles partner, Haas,was able to get a win in his singles match as well. Haas defeated Rocko, needing three sets to do so. Haas fell in the first set, 6-4. Haas was able to rebound, winning the next two sets, 6-2.
Amble was able to get a win to wrap up his career at the Oakland Tennis Center, defeating Rados in two sets. Amble won he first set 6-4 and clinched the match in the second set, 6-4. His doubles partner, Friedland, was able to get the win on the day as well. In the first set, Friedland defeated Sam Henneberg 6-1. Friedland got the win in the second set with a 6-2 win.
The Wolves will wrap up their season this Saturday as they travel to Harrogate, Tenn. to take on Lincoln Memorial at 2 p.m.
