Lady Wolverines fall to Ware Shoals, Clinton

WHITMIRE — The Whitmire Lady Wolverines varsity softball team traveled to Ware Shoals on Tuesday and lost by a score of 9-5. During the first inning Ware Shoals jumped out to a 1-0 lead. The scored stayed 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth when the Hornets added another run to make it 2-0. In the bottom of the fifth the Hornets expanded the lead again to 5-0 on a couple of Wolverine errors. However in the sixth inning the Wolverines would rally back to tie the game at five apiece. In the bottom of the sixth Ware Shoals would take the lead for good as they scored four to make the score 9-5. The loss drops the Wolverines to 0-2 in the region.

Defensively the Wolverines made too many mistakes throughout the game. Those errors led to seven unearned runs for Ware Shoals. Offensively the Wolverine had seven girls register a hit on the night. Harleigh McLaren, Kimberly Kendrick and Kaylynn Roche all register at least two hits. McLaren was 3-3 with one run scored. Kendrick was 2-4 with one run scored. Roche was 2-4 with one run scored, a double, and two RBIs.

The Lady Wolverines also fell to the Red Devils of Clinton on Monday night. At the beginning of the game the Wolverines were playing extremely well. The Wolverines were able to take a 1-0 lead in the third inning, due to a Clinton error and a Jenkins RBI single. However, Clinton would answer with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 lead. The fifth inning proved to be to much for the Wolverines as Clinton was able to plate eight runs on six hits to give them the win 11-1.

“I was very pleased with the way the girls battled all night long. They were aggressive at the plate and played very well defensively, ” said Head Coach Andrew Campbell.

At the plate the Wolverines were led by Kymberlee Jenkins and Nyla Hill. Jenkins was 1-2 with one RBI. Hill was 1-2 on the night. The Wolverines will be back in action on Tuesday in Ware Shoals. The Wolverines are looking to get the their first region win of the year. Game time is 7 p.m.
