LITTLE MOUNTAIN — Boy Scout Troop 61 in Little Mountain celebrated troop member Ethan Riddle reaching the rank of Eagle Scout during a Court of Honor ceremony on May 25. Riddle’s ceremony was held at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church in Chapin.
Riddle is the son of Nelson and Lynn Riddle and has been in Scouting since Cub Scouts.
“Scouting has been a great joy for me. I have learned so much, and made great friendships through it,” Riddle said.
Throughout his years of scouting, Riddle has earned a number of Merit Badges, but there are two that stick out as his favorites.
“There were two favorites. Aviation and Electricity. Aviation Merit Badge was fun, and Electricity Merit Badge led me to what I want to go into as a career,” he said.
Riddle currently works as an electrician’s helper with a local company.
In addition to receiving the highest rank in Scouting, Riddle also received the Bronze Eagle Palm, the Gold Eagle Palm, and the Silver Eagle Palm for additional badges earned beyond those required for Eagle Scout.
Riddle recently received the Brotherhood honor in the Order of the Arrow, a national honor society for scouts that focuses on cheerful service.
Riddle thanked all his leaders for helping him along the Eagle Trail, but gave special recognition to his father, as his mentor. A special Mentor’s Pin was bestowed upon the elder Riddle for his continued support. Riddle also presented Parent’s Pins and Grandparent’s Pins to family members for their love and support during his journey in scouting.
Riddle has faced a number of challenges during his time in scouting, but said his Eagle Project was by far the biggest challenge.
“My Eagle Project was probably my biggest challenge. Getting folks to work together, and around their busy schedules, was quite a feat,” he said.
Riddle’s Eagle Project consisted of building a gaga pit at his church. Many man-hours went into the project, and the endeavor was well received by members of the congregation.
“I want to thank everyone – scouts, leaders, friends, and family for their support. It really means a lot to me,” Riddle added.
