NEWBERRY — Newberry, South Carolina officially welcomed a new chartered graduate chapter, Upsilon Nu Nu, of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated on January 27, 2024. Omega Psi Fraternity was founded in 1911 on the campus of Howard University.

The inception of this new nonprofit chapter is certainly a historic milestone for Newberry, S.C. Since its inception more than a century ago, Omega Psi Phi has sought to better communities by focusing on its four core principles: 1) Manhood, 2) Scholarship, 3) Perseverance and 4) Uplift.

District Representative of Omega Psi Phi’s sixth district, Al White, presented the new charter to Upsilon Nu Nu’s Basileus, Jimmy Suber, as well as swearing in the new officers. This ceremony was conducted at the Center for Teacher Education on the campus of Newberry College. Through community service and serving as a link to the undergraduate brothers of Newberry College, the newly formed 21 member chartered graduate chapter looks forward to working with the Newberry Community and plans to eventually endow a scholarship and serve a bridge builder of undergraduates at Newberry College who will eventually become productive citizens in their perspective communities.
