NEWBERRY — A Downtown Newberry business has stepped into the world of television, EuroLux Home (euroluxhome.com) has recently sold a set of 12 Henry II Chairs to the Netflix series Ozark.
Aimee and Greg Talbot own and operate EuroLux — Aimee Talbot said all of their antique furniture comes from Europe, where they hand select all of their pieces from continental Europe (mostly France and Belgium).
“But, the antiques are only about 20 percent of our business, the rest of our business is high-end new furniture. We sell that new furniture on a drop-ship basis, so when we sell it, we buy from the manufacturer and ship it to the customer — most of the time that does not come through Newberry,” she said.
However, these set of Henry II Chairs were antique chairs that the Talbots bought in France.
“They had really beautiful embossed leather,” Aimee Talbot said.
The chairs were sold via the website Chairish — a website for selling antique and vintage furniture, according to Talbot.
“EuroLux sells on about 12 different marketplaces — including Chairish. So she (the Ozark designer) found us, and it was fun because in the same week we got three calls from T.V. and movie production people, all on Chairish,” she said. “This particular designer works for Ozark production set, so this will be in the third season.”
Talbot said the television and movie industry will sometimes rent antiques, and sometimes buy them out right. In this case, the production was going to need the chairs for more than two months — she said generally they rent on a weekly basis — so they bought them.
“She called, said ‘I’m part of this television show, and do you guys normally do that (renting)?’ I said it is not something we’ve done before, but we’d be open to that,” Talbot said.
It was during this course of the conversation Talbot found out what show they were for. When Talbot said she found out the chairs were for Ozark, she got excited. Talbot said her immediate words were, “Did you say Ozark!”
“I said, I love that show!” she said. “We were pretty excited about it.”
After the chairs were sold to the production, the Talbots made their way to Doraville, Ga. to drop them off. Talbot said they dropped the chairs off at a warehouse that holds only props for Ozark. Talbot said they have kept everything from the first two seasons there — in case they have to go back and film a memory scene.
Talbot was unable to say many details about what the chairs were used for, but she was able to say they were purchased for the third season, and Laura Linney and Jason Bateman (the show’s protagonists) will sit in them.
According to imdb.com, Ozark is about a financial adviser who drags his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks, where he must launder $500 million in five years to appease a drug boss.
To date, the third season premiere date has not been revealed.
Talbot said that EuroLux also received a call that same week from a television producer out of Atlanta, but these weren’t their first brushes with celebrity.
“My favorite is the Johnny Cash Museum, apparently Johnny Cash’s mom had a table exactly like a table like what we sell. His brothers and sisters remember, and they (the museum) were trying to make Johnny Cash Boyhood Home Museum exactly like the home he grew up in,” Talbot said. “So that kitchen table is a EuroLux table.”
Other celebrities they have sold to include, Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue, Linda Hamilton, Courtney Love and Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers.
