NEWBERRY — Seven Newberry County schools were honored on March 19 in Columbia by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and the BlueCross® BlueShield® of South Carolina Foundation for receiving Wellness Inspired School Environments (WISE) grants.
The Seven schools were, Mid-Carolina High School, Pomaria-Garmany Elementary, Boundary Street Elementary, Little Mountain Elementary, Mid-Carolina Middle School, Newberry Middle School, Prosperity-Rikard Elementary.
Nationwide, 461 schools made the list of “America’s Healthiest Schools” based on a rigorous set of criteria, from availability of nutritious foods to access to quality physical education opportunities. In South Carolina, 55 schools received Wellness Inspired School Environment (WISE) grants to further health and wellness efforts with Healthier Generation.
