WHITMIRE — Whitmire Town Council adopted two resolutions, the All Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan Adoption Resolution and the Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement for Catastrophic Disaster Response and Recovery at Monday’s monthly meeting.

The mitigation plan states that the Town of Whitmire recognizes the threat that natural hazards pose to people and their properties, and that having a mitigation plan in place before disasters occur will help reduce potential harm to people and property as well as save taxpayer dollars.

This plan is required to receive future grant funding of mitigation projects. The resolution states that the Whitmire Town Council will adopt the update to the All Natural Hazards Risk Assessment and Mitigation Plan for the Central Midlands Region in its entirety and will undertake annual recordings of hazard events, their impact duration and cost.

The mutual aid agreement states that any county, incorporated municipality or other political subdivision may agree with the state or other political divisions for the joint administration of any function and exercise of powers and the sharing of the costs.

It also states that these governments will cooperate to develop and maintain plans for mutual assistance in emergencies.

South Carolina Code of Laws, Section 6-11-1810 states that any municipality, fire district, fire protection agency or other emergency service entity may provide mutual aid assistance, upon request from any other municipality, fire district, etc. at the time of a fire, earthquake, hurricane, flood or other disaster.
