BRISTOL, TN — Newberry College women’s acrobatics and tumbling team opened its season Friday afternoon, falling to King University 228.415-172.765 in a National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association dual meet.

Newberry showed steady improvement throughout the meet after a challenging start in the Compulsory event. The Tornado built an early lead with a 33.05 in Compulsory, while the Wolves totaled 20.45.

Compulsory

The Wolves’ strongest compulsory heat came in the Pyramid, where they posted an 8.90 out of a 10.0 start value. They also added a 7.15 in the Toss heat. Despite solid efforts in portions of the event, Newberry was unable to capitalize in the Tumbling heat, leaving points on the table early.

Acro Event

Newberry responded well in the Acro event, scoring 21.95 points. The Wolves improved each heat, highlighted by a 7.45 in the 7-Element heat. Their consistency across all three heats kept them competitive and narrowed the scoring margin slightly.

Pyramid Event

The Pyramid event proved to be one of Newberry’s strongest segments of the meet. The Wolves totaled 24.80 points, led by an 8.65 in the Open heat and an 8.10 in the Synchronized heat. Their execution and stability in the structures showed growth and composure.

Toss Event

Newberry continued to build momentum in the Toss event, earning 23.20 points overall. The highlight came in the Open Toss heat, where the Wolves scored an 8.45 — their highest toss score of the day. They also posted matching 7.40 and 7.35 scores in the 450 Salto and Synchronized heats.

Tumbling Event

The Tumbling event featured several bright spots for the Wolves. Newberry’s Aerial Pass earned a strong 7.450, while the Open Pass added a 7.500. The Six-Element Pass contributed a 6.375, and the Trio Pass scored a 6.600. Though King extended its lead in the event, Newberry’s individual passes demonstrated potential moving forward.

Team Event

In the Team Event, the Wolves scored 54.44 points out of a 76.74 start value. The performance capped a meet where Newberry steadily improved in execution as the afternoon progressed.

The Wolves look to build off this performance and will return to the mats on February 28th against Coker University in Eleazer Arena.
