NEWBERRY — Head Coach Todd Knight, the winningest coach in Newberry history, and his staff welcomed 170 student-athletes back to campus last week. They officially opened fall camp on last Wednesday morning. The team engaged in their first on-field practice in preparation for the 2024 season.
Knight, in his 16th season as head coach, returns a veteran staff which includes longtime offensive and defensive coordinators Stephen Flynn and Todd Varn.
Knight enters the season with 93 victories at the helm of the Newberry program.
Tight ends coach Sean Lampkin recently accepted a position at Charlotte, a Division I program. His departure resulted in offensive line coach Randy Floares, who joined the staff in February, being promoted to recruiting coordinator and former Wolves standout Juwan Moye moving into the tight ends coaching spot. Recent Newberry College graduate and former starting kicker Lawson Reel will coach the specialists.
Former star quarterback Dre Harris returns for his first full season as the Wolves quarterbacks coach. While staff veterans Mitch Hall, Deke Herrin, Jeremiah Jones, Pierce Spangler, and Drew Watson round out the staff.
The Wolves play seven of their 11 games at home this year, including three of the first four and open the season against NCAA Division 2 playoff team Valdosta State on September 7th followed by a showdown with defending NAIA champion Keiser (Fla.) the following weekend, before opening South Atlantic Conference play September 21st at Tusculum.
