HICKORY, N.C. – The Newberry College Men’s and Women’s Track and Field program participated in the LR Last Chance Meet in Lenoir-Rhyne over the weekend.
Senior thrower Kegan Crowell took first place in Discus and Hammer Throw. In the discus throw Crowell’s 50.58-meter (165 feet 11inch) toss beat out the second-place thrower by 11 meters. In the hammer throw, Crowell’s 51.48-meter (168 feet 10 inches) throw gave him his second first place finish of the afternoon.
Fellow thrower Sean Price finished in second place in the Javelin throw with his 51.57 (169 feet 2 inch) throw.
In the 400-meter hurdles, the freshmen duo of Landon Tucker and Rashaad George ended up taking fourth and fifth place. Tucker took fourth with a time of :54.83, while George posted a :56.83 time to take fifth.
On the Women’s side, freshman jumper Ziya Walker competed in the long and triple jump. Walker placed sixth in triple jump with a 10.17-meter (33 feet 4 ½ inch) jump. In long jump, Walker finished 12th with a 4.70-meter (15 feet 5 inch) jump.
