ROCK HILL — Jayleen Gant has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Gant, a junior from Poway, Calif., won the SAC Defensive Player of the Week after she played a combined 90 minutes in Newberry’s victories over Spring Hill 3-0, and Auburn University at Montgomery 4-2.
She recorded a combined nine saves on the weekend, including seven against the Warhawks. She is tied for the lead in save percentage, goals against, and goals against average in the conference and is second in the league in total saves.
The Defensive Player of the Week recognition is Gant’s second career weekly award.
