PROSPERITY — The Mid-Carolina Rebels were unable to come out on top Friday night and the Abbeville High School Panthers went home with a 41-6 victory.
“This is a very good football team and they are good on both sides. We knew how strong in the back they were and how fast they were. We did some things well when we would set the edge, but we just weren’t fast enough to make the plays,” said Mid-Carolina Coach Louie Alexander. “Our kids fought from start to finish and I’m proud of that. We did some good things and we shot ourselves in the foot early on in some drives. All in all, the effort was good we just have to go from there.”
The Rebels took possession first and after gaining no yards, quarterback Cade Ruff was forced to punt the ball to the Panthers, where with less than six minutes left in the first quarter, the Panthers made their way into the end zone for the first score of the night.
With the ball in Rebels possession again, Ruff’s passes fell incomplete, forcing the Rebels to punt the ball. The Panthers extended their lead with another touchdown with 4:46 left in the first quarter.
The Panthers closed out the first quarter by adding another touchdown to the board, with the score 0-20 going into the second quarter.
The Panthers regained possession early in the second quarter after aRebel fumble with 11:43 left before halftime. But the Rebels answered back when the Panthers fumbled.
A touchdown by Drew Moore put the Rebels on the board with 6:45 remaining before the half. The Panthers blocked the PAT, making the score 6-20.
Panther Cortney Jackson would help the Panthers widen the gap even further by finding the end zone twice for the Panther touchdown.
With the score now 6-34, the Rebels recovered another loose ball, regaining possession but had to punt the ball away. The Panthers then put the final score of the night on the board.
This week the Rebels hit the road to take on Broome High School with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
