WHITMIRE — The Whitmire High School Wolverines are on the road tonight as they head to Richburg to take on the Lewisville High School Lions.

The Wolverines are currently 1-2 and the Lions are 2-1.

“Lewisville is the second ranked team in Class A. They have twice as many students as we do and they will move up to Class AA after this season. They can hold their own against many Class AA and AAA schools and do so on a regular basis,” said Wolverines Head Coach Charlie Jenkins. “Everybody in the state knows about Lewisville football.”

This week the Wolverines are concentrating on getting better, and Jenkins said win or lose, they can use this game to get better.

“I tell the guys we schedule these tough early games to test ourselves and see where we are as a team and as a program,” he said. “If we get to the point with our program where we are good enough to compete with the best Class A teams then we will start scheduling Class AA and AAA teams. We won’t be satisfied and we will always try to challenge ourselves.”

Tonight’s game will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
