PROSPERITY — The Mid-Carolina High School Rebels jumped out to an early lead March 31 over Newberry High School by scoring three runs in the first, second and third innings.

The Rebels added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Newberry scored its only run in the top of the fourth on a walk, an error, and a single by Trey Kinard.

Alex Blackmon led Newberry with two hits and handled the catching duties for Newberry’s two pitchers.

Corey Stone was the winning pitcher (three and two thirds innings) with Jeb Fulmer (two and one-third) closing the game.

The two pitchers combined gave up only five hits, struck out nine, and allowed only three walks. Preston Farmer completed the battery.

The Rebels accumulated 15 hits, two home runs, and only three strikeouts.

Home runs were hit by Drew Cromer in the second inning (three RBI’s) and Cade Ruff in the third inning (two RBI’s). Stone and Ruff both had three hits and Hunter Clinton, Jonathan Bickley, and Cromer had two hits each.
