As a life-long resident of Newberry, I have always taken great pride in the community my family lives in. We have raised our children to have respect for our neighbors and our town, to treat everyone fairly and honestly. We believe in abiding by the law and working for what we have.

Wednesday, May 24, my husband brought to my attention that my concrete angel was missing from our yard. Now, some may say it is just a yard ornament, “get another one.” That may sound simple, but this particular angel belonged to my mother. After her death, 14 years ago, it took the place of honor next to our front steps. Just having this angel my mother cherished gave me a sense of peace, as if my mother was watching over my family.

It saddened me to think that someone came on our property, near our front door and removed something that meant so much to my family. All I can say is I hope it brings them as much comfort and peace as it brought me.

To all my fellow Newberrians, take pride in our community and treat your neighbors with the same respect you wish to be treated with. Let’s prove to each other why we are “The City of Friendly Folk.”
