NEWBERRY — William F. “Will” Lever of Pomaria was awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Newberry County Master Gardeners Association on June 4 at the opening of the Grow Newberry Farmers Market.
Lever, the son of Todd and Lynnette Lever, is a graduate of Mid-Carolina High School and will be entering Piedmont Technical College at the Saluda campus in the Diversified Agriculture Program.
The Diversified Agriculture Program is a Bridge Transfer program to Clemson University.
Lever has succeeded in his academic studies, which included classes at the Newberry County Career Center as well as dual enrollment courses with Piedmont Technical College.
Lever participated in FFA activities, placed at state levels in tractor driving and the NASP (archery in schools) Tournament. He has been an active volunteer in agricultural and sporting events and the Morris Chapel Youth Group.
Funds for the scholarships are raised through the sale of plants, gardening gloves, and other garden items. Sales are conducted at the Grow Newberry Farmers Market and at festivals and events throughout the year.
