MONROE, N.C. — Led by a record-setting day from freshman Nabila Inak, the Newberry Wolves moved up two spots to third after the second round at the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Women’s Golf Championship on Monday.

Newberry shot 312 in Monday’s second round to tie for the second-best round of the tournament. This moves Newberry up to third place at 637 (325-312, +61) with 18 holes remaining in the tournament. The Wolves are 12 strokes behind Queens and six strokes behind Carson-Newman.

Inak, a freshman from Forest Hills, N.Y., shot a remarkable 71 (-1) in Monday’s round to tie her career-best round and vault to the top of the individual leaderboard. Her 71 is the first round below par at a SAC Championship since Newberry’s Maria Luz Besio in 2012 and is only the fourth round below 72 in the history of the SAC Championship.

Inak shot six birdies in her round with three bogeys and a double bogey. Her two-day subtotal of 147 (76-71, +3) puts her atop the leaderboard, one stroke ahead of SAC Golfer of the Year Grace Glaze of Queens.

Karly Mims rebounded from a tough first round with a 77 on Monday and now sits in 21st place at 163 (+19), along with teammate Mariam Colon, who shot an 82 Monday.

Annabelle Dallery shot 82 Monday as well and is in 30th place with a two-day subtotal of 166 (+22). Taylor Lance withdrew from the round due to injury on the back nine. While now out of the individual race, Lance is hopeful to return to the lineup and help contribute to the Wolves’ title chances Tuesday for the final round.

On Sunday, Inak shot two birdies and six bogeys on the way to a 76 (+4), which is good for a five-way tie for fourth place through the opening round.

Newberry is in fifth place after the opening round at 325 (+27), with Carson-Newman and Lincoln Memorial tied for the lead at 312. Queens and Wingate are tied for third at 320.

Mariam Colon is in 19th place, carding two birdies on her way to a score of 81 (+9). Annabelle Dallery and Taylor Lance are in 30th place at 84 (+12). Lance carded three birdies in her opening round with Dallery notching a pair of birdies. Karly Mims is in 43rd place after a first round 86 (+14).
