COLUMBIA – The winner of South Carolina’s first $1,000 a day for LIFE grand prize has come forward.
The winning Lucky for Life ticket sold by the BP on Main, 3206 Main St. in Newberry, for the drawing on Nov. 19 was claimed Nov. 20 by a local resident.
The winner checked the ticket at 4:30 a.m. Their reaction: “I cried,” the winner said.
A combination of sentimental numbers picked by the player (7, 14, 21, 32, and 33 Lucky Ball: 14) were golden.
The winner’s next move might surprise some: “I went to work this morning,” the player said.
And the winner plans to keep working despite accepting a lump sum payout of $5.75 million instead of the $1,000 a day for life annuity. After taxes, the winner’s check was for $3.9 million.
“I’m so happy,” the winner shared. “And I’m keeping it a secret.”
For selling the ticket, the BP on Main in Newberry received a $50,000 commission.
Odds of winning $1,000 a day for LIFE playing Lucky for Life are 1 in 30.8 million. Tickets are $2 and available at South Carolina lottery retailers everywhere.
