PROSPERITY — A Prosperity man has been charged with kidnapping after an incident which took place on October 17 at Pineridge Apartments in Prosperity.

Kentrell Dontez Wicker, 23, of 163 Henry Village Drive, Prosperity, turned himself into authorities on October 23. In addition to kidnapping, Wicker is also being charged with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

On October 17, officers were dispatched to the location to meet with a subject in reference to a possible domestic violence issue. According to the Prosperity Police Department Police Report, the responding officer met with a victim who stated that she was beaten and bit by Wicker, and kept from leaving the location where he was keeping her.

The report further stated that the victim, who was wearing oversized clothing, had to run out of the house naked because she was stripped of her clothing. The victim asked for EMS to check on her, and she was transported to Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

The victim was treated and released from NCMH for minor injuries and made a formal statement with the Prosperity Police Department, according to the report. In the statement, she stated the incident lasted over an hour and a half — she made several attempts to leave the property, according to the report.

The victim further stated that the argument started over text messages with another person. Wicker then began to push her and demanded she unlock the phone for him to see the messages, the report stated.

A male subject who the victim called heard her yells and was able to contact her mother saying she needed help, according to the report.

She attempted to leave several times, but Wicker threw her down and pulled her back into the residence — at one point Wicker had the victim in a choke hold, the report stated.

The victim said she could not breathe and began scratching at Wicker’s arms in order to make him let go — at this point Wicker bit the victim on the back, according to the report.

The victim was able to go to a nearby apartment and asked the homeowner to use the phone, but Wicker carried her back to the incident location and locked the door to keep her from leaving — he also took the keys to her car so she could not leave, according to the report.

According to the report, Wicker began calling the victim derogatory names, stripping her of her clothing and physically striking her. Wicker went to the kitchen where he retrieved a carving knife — he told the victim he should “wet me” which the victim took as a prison slang term for stabbing her, the report stated. Wicker’s aunt then came to the door to check on him to see what was going on — he went to the door and the victim ran out the back door up Pine Street — according to the report.

Wicker tried to chase after the victim, but let her go after a neighbor saw the commotion and told him to leave her alone — she ran to a neighbors house where she was able to call 911, according to the report. The report further states that Wicker attempted to get the victim from the neighbor’s house, but could not get inside.

Wicker currently remains in custody at the Newberry County Detention Center where bond has been denied.
