NEWBERRY — For the seventh year, Newberry College hosts The Dufford Diversity and Inclusion week from October 21-28, in efforts to promote appreciation for diversity and create a culture of inclusiveness that values and respects every individual.

Kicking off Dufford Diversity week, The Newberry Opera House organization NAFA (Newberry Arts For All) is hosting The Kingdom Choir, a London-based choir that is led by one of the UK’s most respected Gospel tutors and choir conductors, Karen Gibson. The Kingdom Choir will be visiting the Newberry Opera House on Friday, October 18, at 8:00 p.m.

Started as an informal music group in 1994, The Kingdom Choir has continually risen to new heights. In 2000, the group won Minstrels in the Gallery a religious music competition organized by BBC. In 2002, they were nominated for best UK Choir at the Oasis Gospel Awards. Touring around the world, The Kingdom Choir reached new heights after performing for the British Royal Family’s wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle in 2018.

The choir draws from various Christian traditions and is dedicated to creating a sound that reflects the community they share through their warm energy and enthusiastic performances. The Kingdom Choir released their first full length album in November 2018. Known for its unique sound, warm energy and enthusiastic performances, the group is a great example of unity within the British Gospel Community.

Be sure to see The Kingdom Choir on their 1st North American Tour, Stand by Me Tour which will be showcasing their 2018 album “Stand by Me.”
