WHITMIRE, S.C. — Whitmire Recreational Department were forced to deliver some bad news earlier this month with the cancellation of pee wee and junior tackle football due to low participation. However, all is not lost. The Whitmire Recreational league came up with an alternative plan to still allow the youth to participate in fall sports.
They added a 8-11 year old Flag Football league. The kids who already signed up for the youth tackle leagues were already switched over. Also, the deadline was extended to Friday, August 30 for participants who still wanted to sign up for the flag football league. Flag football is in need of 28 participants (14 for age group 5-7 and 14 for age group 8-11).
In addition, the youth soccer and cheerleaders are in danger of being canceled due to the low participation numbers. The soccer age groups need a total of 24 participants (12 for age group 3-5, 12 for age group 6-8).
It was enough cheerleaders signed up, but they are in danger of being cut because of the low participation in other sports.
So if you know any youth that would like to participate and prevent these wonderful youth programs from being cut, then please encourage their parents to sign them up!
