
MONROE, N.C. — The Newberry College women’s golf team finished in fourth place, while Nabila Inak finished third in the individual standings at the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Women’s Golf Championship on Tuesday at the Monroe Country Club.
The tournament saw its tightest finish in its 17-year history, as Newberry’s fourth place finish was only eight strokes back of the champion. Newberry shot 946 (325-312-309, +82) for the 54-hole event, while champions Queens shot 938. Carson-Newman was second at 942 and Lincoln Memorial was third at 944.
Nabila Inak, a freshman from Forest Hills, N.Y., finished in third in the individual standings to earn First Team All-Tournament honors. Her 225 (76-71-78, +9) was only two strokes behind medalist and SAC Golfer of the Year Grace Glaze of Queens and one stroke behind SAC Freshman of the Year Abbey Hartsell of Lenoir-Rhyne.
The performances by the Wolves’ team and Inak rank amongst the best in SAC Championship history.
The 946 team total is the ninth-best team total in the 17-year history of the tournament, with four of those top nine scores happening at this year’s Championship.
The 309 in the third round is also tied for the ninth-best team round in the tournament’s history.
It is the sixth time Newberry has shot 310 or better in a round at the conference tournament.
Inak’s 225 is now tied for the fourth-best individual score in the tournament’s history, with three of the top four all-time scores coming at this year’s Championship.
For the day, Newberry shot a 309, which was the team’s best 18 hole score of the entire season and the second-best in this year’s tournament. After sitting in third entering the day, the Wolves were leapfrogged by LMU, who shot 306 Tuesday.
Mariam Colon and Karly Mims tied for 15th in the individual standings at 240 (+24), each shooting 77 (+5) in Tuesday’s round.
Taylor Lance contributed a 77 to Tuesday’s team total, although she does not place in the individual standings after withdrawing from Monday’s second round due to injury.
Annabelle Dallery finished in 40th after a 249 (+33) for the tournament and an 83 (+11) on Tuesday.
