NEWBERRY — Newberry College(4-4, 3-3 SAC) will hit the road for Gaffney, S.C. to take on Limestone(5-3, 5-1 SAC). The game will kickoff at 12:00 p.m. at Saints Field. This will be the ninth meeting between the two programs. Last season, the Wolves fell short at home with a 42-37 loss. They still hold the series over the Saints with a 6-2 record.
The Wolves are coming off a tough home loss against no.10 Lenoir-Rhyne on last Saturday at Setzler Field and are looking to bounce back.
The Saints are coming into the game on fire. They won five of their last six games and are in second place in the Piedmont side of the SAC behind Lenoir-Rhyne. Their offense is also entering this matchup on fire. It’s averaging 26.8 points per game, 142.5 rushing yards per game and 281.8 yards per game.
Tre Stewart leads the Saints in rushing and almost at 1,000-yard mark for the season with 834 yards. Dustin Noller is second in the conference in passing yards per game (262.9) and passing touchdowns(18). Jelani Baker is third in the SAC in receiving yards per game(85.1) and leads in receiving touchdowns(8).
The Wolves secondary struggled with the Bears passing attack in last week’s matchup. The secondary will be tested again this week and will need to play a lot of better. Their defensive line will also need to help out and provide pressure on Noller.
As for the Wolves’ offense, their run game will play a key role like it has been all season. The Saints’ defense allow 138.3 rushing yards per game and 325 yards of total offense per game.
A win could really be a huge boost for the Wolves as they prepare to close out the 2023 season with only three games remaining on their schedule.
