ROCK HILL — Iris Duke has been named the South Atlantic Conference Field Athlete of the Week. This is the first time in program history a student-athlete from Newberry has won a SAC Track and Field Athlete of the Week award.

Duke recorded a 44.10-meter (144’ 8”) mark in her first attempt in the hammer throw at the CIU Rams Invitational last Saturday. Duke’s first place finish in the event helped the Wolves claim a sixth-place finish at the meet.

Duke has been on a tear lately, posting a personal-best of 45.75-meters (150’1”) in the hammer throw at the Charleston Southern Spring Break Invitational on March 16. The North Charleston native went up against several NCAA Division I athletes at the meet and managed to place sixth overall in the event.
