ROCK HILL — Shelby Britten has been named the Astroturf SAC Player of the Week after averaging 20 points, 4.5 rebounds, and two assists in games against Wingate and Anderson, the league office announced.

Britten led a balanced scoring attack against Wingate, scoring 12 points and grabbing five boards to give the Wolves a 64-51 win. The senior played 31 minutes in the contest as the Bulldogs were held to a season-low 51 points on 24.6 percent shooting.

The Shepparton, Victoria, Australia native then exploded for 28 points on 6-of-10 shooting from deep against No. 10 Anderson. Britten’s 74 total three pointers this season ranks as the second-most in a single season in Newberry women’s basketball history. Newberry nearly upset the nationally-ranked Trojans on the road, narrowly falling 82-76 in the game.

This is Britten’s first Player of the Week award this season and Newberry’s second overall, joining fellow senior Meg Essex who won the award in November.
