COLUMBIA — Newberry’s track and field teams competed at the USC Indoor Open on Saturday at the South Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex.

On the Track:

Both Shelton Reynolds and Carlos Hernandez finished the 3K event in under 10-minutes as Reynolds finished in 9:40.75 and Hernandez in 9:57.48. Quinn Wilson ran a 4:34.21 mile to finish second in his heat and 23rd overall.

James Glenn posted a 22.10 time in the men’s 200m for 30th place. Glenn also missed out on qualifying for the 60m dash after posting an impressive 7.03 time in the qualifying race. Cameron Henderson competed in the 400m dash, speeding to a time of 51.43.

Edwards Collins and Elijah Fulmore narrowly missed out on qualifying in the 60m hurdles preliminary as Collins finished 12th with a time of 8.76 and Fulmore finishing 14th with an 8.80.

Elka Variste posted the best finish for the Wolves in the women’s 60m dash preliminaries with a time of 8.06.

Tashayna Flinch and Tahleebah Martin both competed in the women’s 800 run. Flinch posted a 2:39.40 time, finishing third in her heat, while Martin ran a 2:48.05. Flinch also posted a 1:02.88 time in the 400m dash while Martin ran a 1:02.07 in the same event.

Martin also competed in the women’s 60m hurdles preliminary qualifier, finishing with a time of 10.09.

In the Field:

Rikaya Williams posted a 10.11m throw in the women’s shot put to finish 21st overall, while Jada Jennings and Gari Forehand finished closely behind with throws of 9.84m and 9.51m respectively. Iris Duke threw for 13.09m in the women’s weight throw to finish 22nd.

A trio of freshman posted throws over 11 meters in the men’s shot put with Treyshawn Miller leading the way with a 11.76m. Mailk Morant followed with a 11.67m mark while Antonio Taylor had a 11.29m throw.

D’Arion Johnston cleared 5.18m for 19th place in the women’s long jump.
