NEWBERRY — Newberry resident Henry Wilson will receive a free set of hearing aids through The Beltone Hearing Care Foundation.
The Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, donates hearing aids to those who need them but are unable to access them. Individuals are eligible to receive assistance from the Foundation through direct nominations to Beltone or at one of its over 1,500 locations across North America.
“This Foundation gives us a new path to achieve this mission by helping deserving individuals and organizations in their communities enrich their quality of life,” said Michael Andreozzi, CEO of Beltone New England. “We are completely ecstatic to be able to help Henry Wilson, obviously a person who needed our assistance in a huge way. We are delighted we are able to change his life for the better. That’s what the Beltone Hearing Care Foundation is all about.”
As a young man, Wilson, now 72, tried to volunteer for the military but was denied because he had hearing loss. Since that time he has struggled with his hearing. Everyday life has been extremely hard as he has constantly struggled to listen to conversations.
When Wilson visited the Lancaster Beltone Hearing Center, he tried several different models and was elated when he could hear properly but was in tears when he had to give them back.
Enter Amanda Bonner, who works as a Hearing Care Practitioner at that location. Bonner said she couldn’t stand by and not help Wilson somehow.
She applied to The Beltone Hearing Care Foundation on Wilson’s behalf to see if she could get him approved for new hearing aids free. Wilson was approved almost instantly. He will be fitted with his new hearing aids on June 6 at the Lancaster location.
