PROSPERITY — Mid-Carolina Middle School celebrated American Education Week from Nov. 16 through Nov. 20 with a series of events aimed at honoring everyone involved in the process of educating the children in Newberry County.

Students wrote thank you letters to teachers and staff who have made an impact on them, whether they work at Mid-Carolina Middle School or within Newberry County School District.

Teachers discussed the characteristics and qualifications one must have to be employed. Students worked on resume writing as well to expose them to the process of seeking employment. Special treats were provided to Mid-Carolina Middle School’s bus drivers and cafeteria staff.

Mid-Carolina Middle School’s PTO provided breakfast for teachers and staff on Tuesday and parents and grandparents were invited to eat lunch with students on Wednesday. A traditional Thanksgiving meal was served.

Educator for a Day was held Thursday. Speakers were escorted by Rebel Ambassadors to classrooms where they either shared a book with the class they visited or shared life lessons that could inspire students to become whatever they choose to do in life.

“Having the community come to read to students at MCMS was a valuable experience,” said Deedee Westwood, principal. “When community leaders enter a school it teaches the children more than a basic reading lesson. The students learn about different life experiences and opportunities that are available to them after receiving a formal education. It further enhances what MCMS is promoting for their students, to become productive citizens.”
