POMARIA — Pomaria Town Councilmen Richard Ringer and Jimmy Wilson recently attended a meeting for contractors interested in bidding on the town’s Penny Sales Tax project, the renovation of the Old Pomaria School building.

They were looking at the building (Old Pomaria School) to ensure all of the contractors would be familiar with the items they were bidding on. It was reported by Council last month that bids for the renovations came in high and the County would be negotiating with the consultant on what could be done.

Roofing, mechanical and electrical will be priorities for the town as they wait for a contractor to be selected.

“Got to have the essentials, we’re have to have some type of heating and air, definitely have to have a roof and some electricity and whatever lighting they can bring in and are affordable,” said Mayor Darryl Hentz.

Wilson added roofing will be a concern, having previously dealt with leaks in the building and charred lumber.

“We don’t think it’s a whole lot of issue, but we don’t know how much lumber could be damaged because of the leaks that we had,” he said.

There was also discussion on lighting and the possibility of doing away with the ceiling fans.

“There was discussion to do away with the ceiling fans and replace the lighting, if they had to take the fixture down to rewire the fixture and then put the old fixture back up, how much difference would it make if they replaced the fixture,” Wilson said.

In other business, Hentz informed Council to be aware of inflatable companies and making sure policies are in the proper name.

“Be very careful, if you get someone who has inflatables, but they say they’re insured and send you a copy, make sure that the insurance is in the inflatable company’s name not in like a construction company’s name that might be doing inflatables on the side, look at the policy and make sure it is in the name of the owner,” Hentz said.
