PROSPERITY — Members of the Mid-Carolina Middle School cheerleading team attended a 4-day UCA Cheer Camp at Lander University June 22nd – 25th, 2017. The team earned 3 Gold Superior and 2 Blue Superior Ribbons on evaluations that were held throughout the 4 days.
Each morning the girls would have a wakeup call at 6:15 to get their day started. They were taught numerous cheers, chants, and dances.
The squad had 6 girls try out for All-American Cheerleader. Each summer at UCA, UDA, NCA, NDA, and USA camps, thousands of cheerleaders and dancers try out for the All-American title, but only 12 percent are chosen! MCMS is very excited to have Gracie Hobgood and Alana Shealy selected for this prestigious award. These two young ladies received an invitation to travel to Walt Disney World during Thanksgiving and participate in the opening ceremonies to the Magic Kingdom Park Main Street USA parade. Being an All-American is one of the highest awards an individual can achieve in cheerleading. It truly is a great honor!
Universal Cheerleading Association sponsors The Pin It Forward program as a way to promote all the reasons why America Needs Cheerleaders, specifically the values developed through cheerleading, such as leadership, spirit, commitment, kindness and motivation! On the first day of camp UCA Instructors look for cheerleaders who demonstrate those positive values. Dottie Jacobs was the proud recipient of this amazing award.
On the final day of camp, the Mid-Carolina Middle School Cheerleaders competed for camp champions in the Game Day and Xtreme Dance Routine divisions. They were awarded Camp Champions for Game Day as well as Overall Camp Champions. By winning the honor of Camp Champions, the squad received an invitation to a 4-day trip to Disney World and to perform at the 2017 Citrus Bowl Pre-Game Show in Orlando, Fl.
This was a very long 4 days for this beginning squad. Their day started at 6:15 and many nights they were not back to the dorm rooms until 8:30. “If you want a feeling for what cheerleading is really like, go to a cheer camp,” stated Coach Stacy Folk, “it will make you or break you.” “These ladies worked hard each day as a team and encouraged each other. They truly represented MCMS well,” said Coach Stacy.
The team will hopefully continue on their winning streak when they start their 2017 competition season.
The Mid-Carolina Middle School Cheerleaders are coached by Stacy and Jessica Folk.
