POMARIA — Resident Malaria Wadsworth approached Pomaria Town Council Monday to address various concerns regarding the well-being of children in the community.
“I have concerns about the kids and how they are growing up around here. I see things that I don’t like and I’m not used to seeing kids do what they want to do and go wherever they want to go,” said Wadsworth. “I called Darryl Hentz to try to make a difference. Grown ups you can’t control, but kids you have to start training at home and these kids that I see in the community, they’re not getting the proper training at home so they just run around doing anything.”
Wadsworth proposed to Council that the Town of Pomaria hold a function that could educate kids on saying no to drugs and preventing them from making wrong choices.
“Around here, nobody is making a difference, nobody is trying. I came to Darryl to see about putting on a benefit so we could get these kids out of the house and show them what the real world is like,” said Wadsworth.
“We can offer a place to meet if you want to have a function to get together, but if we do that we’re going to have to have the right people,” said Hentz.
Wadsworth wants to make a difference in the community and said that she wasn’t going to sit back and watch it happen and no one does anything about it.
“Every time I turn around it’s always something negative going on, so I want to make a difference in Pomaria and give guidance to the kids on what could happen if they get in trouble,” said Wadsworth.
Wadsworth is confident that she can put an event together and Hentz suggested that Wadsworth gather up possible dates that she would like to hold something and get back in touch to ensure none of the dates conflict with other events in Pomaria.
“I’ve been a child once and the things I went through and saw, it’s hard to walk around with no guidance. It’s hard to see people walk around with no respect and they do whatever they want to do, it’s difficult. If they’re not getting it from home, they have to get it from somewhere and somebody,” said Wadsworth.
Other business:
• The Town of Pomaria had a beginning balance of $5,043.29 and by May 31 had an ending balance of $5,015.50.
• Council approved the second reading of the proposed 2017-2018 budget. Councilman Jimmy Wilson made the motion and Councilman Richard Ringer seconded.
